The DHZ Competition in Voderady

7^th Year of the Competition of DHZ - Voluntary Fire Brigades

The seventh year of firemen’s water firefighting competition was held in the first summer weekend in Voderady village. Twenty-two voluntary fire brigades (“DHZ”) were participating, grouped in men and women categories. The event was organized with assistance of sponsors, among whom the company Trnavská stavebná spoločnosť, a.s., was repeatedly represented. The ceremonial opening was followed by drawing lots on the squads participating, each of which had first to stow the fire engine and any necessary hoses at the base outfitted with a 1,000-liter water tank. Then, at the starter’s order, each squad had to join, as fast as possible, the suction piping together with the hoses, take them at a run to 80 m distant targets, and hit a fire there. The performances were electronically timed, and the squad with shortest time was pronounced the winner. Such firemen´s sporting competitions are very popular with spectators, but they are primarily designed to increase firefighters´ skills, as they are necessarily required in their dangerous profession.
